My Journey this Far!
When I look back at my life, one truth keeps standing out: what you consistently believe, declare, and pursue has a way of shaping your path. This has been my story time and time again.
The Beginning: Choosing a path I didn’t originally want
It all began in 2005, when I was admitted to the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Education (Arts). Never mind, my dream had been to study either Industrial Chemistry or Bachelor of Commerce. Teaching was never my choice.
However, my parents could only afford government-sponsored university education, so I chose to embrace the opportunity that was available to me. Deep inside, though, I made a personal decision, I told myself that I would never step into a classroom as a teacher.I therefore strategically chose Mathematics and Business Studies, believing these subjects would open doors into the financial sector. And they did.
Entering the financial world
Fast forward to September 2009, I landed my first job at an international bank based in Kenya. From day one, I made another declaration to myself: “Mercy, you will not stay here for more than five years.”
At that time, I had no idea what the next chapter would look like, but I trusted that my path would unfold in time. True to that inner conviction, in August 2014, I left banking and stepped fully into entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship and the birth of a new desire
My longest-standing venture became baking and cake decoration, a business that shaped my resilience, creativity, and business thinking. It taught me discipline and the realities of entrepreneurship.
Yet somewhere around 2016, a new desire began to grow within me. I wanted to become a trainer. Ala! Its been 10 years. I did not know exactly what area I would train in, but the desire was strong and persistent.
The leap into training

In 2018, I reached out to my friend and mentor Alphonse and declared my desire to becoming a trainer. Why, because he had founded a firm whose core mandate was capacity building, “I want to get into training, but I don’t know where to begin.” He asked me a simple question:
“How much time are you willing to commit?”
My answer was clear: three days a week. During our conversation, he asked me, “When do you want to begin?” I said, “February.” His response was simple: “See you on February 1st.”
In 2019 Alphonce , took me in under his guidance. That commitment changed everything.
I didn’t have any certification at the time, just knowledge, willingness, and the ability to deliver. And that was enough to start. That moment marked the true beginning of my training journey. I am forever grateful to Alphonse for believing in me.
Launching the training venture
By 2020, I launched my first training venture focused on digital marketing and customer service, working together with the Sheave Coaching and Mentorship Startup Incubator Programme, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I often say that when the story of my training journey is written, it cannot be told without mentioning Alphonse of Learn Africa Solutions Limited and Pamela of Sheaves Coaching and Mentorship Limited. Now you know why!
Growth through AWEC
Later, I joined the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative (AWEC). During the 2023–2024 cohort 6, As I went through the progamme I couldn’t help but kept thinking:
“If I had known all that AWEC taught me this earlier, I would have gone much further as an entrepreneur.”
That realization gave birth to a new mission, to use the knowledge I had acquired to mentor and coach fellow entrepreneurs.
A Defining Moment: Community empact

In 2024, AWEC launched the Community Champion Initiative (CCI). I attended one of the sessions facilitated by a lady I was meeting for the first time, Edna.
Edna is the Co-Founder and CEO of Live Your Dream Enterprises Limited, an organization that supports entrepreneurs through training, coaching and mentorship. I shared my dream with her, and through what I can only describe as divine alignment, she recommended me to the AWEC CCI programme for 2025.
I was selected, trained, and given the mandate to train women entrepreneurs in my community creating what I now call a true ripple effect.
Certification and expanded impact
Around the same time, I also became a certified trainer through International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), which empowered me to train entrepreneurs on how to digitally transform their businesses.
When I joined CCI, the set goal was to train 150 women. I told myself I had to meet that target by September and yes, I did. I then set a personal goal to reach 200 by December, and once again, it came to pass.
Looking Back: Every step had a purpose
As I reflect on this journey, I see clearly how every step was connected, from university choices, to banking, to entrepreneurship, to training and mentorship. What once felt uncertain was actually preparation.
I now believe more deeply than ever that there is nothing like luck. It is about believing wholeheartedly in what you desire, committing to it through consistent action, submitting it to God, and allowing Him to orchestrate the right connections.
The journey continues
In 2025, I received another opportunity to mentor entrepreneurs through Live Your Dream Enterprises as well as the AWEC Alumni Scale-Up Circle Initiative. These experiences further affirmed that when purpose meets persistence, doors continue to open.
My Biggest Lesson
Today, I can confidently say:
What you profess, you become.
Opportunity will always meet you at your level of audacity. So don’t just allow life to happen, learn to speak what you desire with conviction and emotion, and watch it unfold.
I have chosen to write mostly about education and career, but I have seen this principle work even in my personal life. For example, I saw myself as a mother of boys, and that too came to pass. The list could go on and on.
And through it all, my journey keeps reminding me that words spoken with belief, backed by action, and surrendered to God, can truly shape the course of our lives.
See you at the top!
